This is a Shoney’s Hot Fudge Cake. You can’t buy them where I live without driving for an hour an a half. They are one of my Grandmother’s favorite things, so my Mother called me at noon yesterday and told me she wanted to try to make some of these at home to take to my Grandmother for her birthday. She started naming off ingredients she needed to get and hypothesizing about how to get the square of ice cream between the cakes, and long story short (too late) it ended with me having to go shopping and spend the afternoon cussing and trying to recreate a sacred recipe as close to the original as possible. I think mine came out pretty close, though I need to figure out how to make the cake a bit more dense n_n’ Either way, if you haven’t got a Shoney’s near you, Big Boy is the same restaurant. Go forth and eat cake! Let me know if you want the recipe.
